FAQ

THE THERAPY PROCESS

  • Holistic psychotherapy is a unique approach that recognizes the intimate connection between the physical and emotional aspects of our being. Therapists are trained to help clients access their inner wisdom and resources through the body, using techniques like mindfulness, breath work, and movement. Sessions work by creating a safe and supportive space to explore different areas of life such as trauma, personal, career, and relationship challenges. Goals, frequency, and duration of the therapy vary depending on your individual needs and response to treatment.

You and your therapist work together to identify and challenge thought and behavior patterns that keep you from feeling and performing at your best. The process consists of regular appointments, discussions, and learning more about the issues that brought you in. You can expect to explore ways that lifestyle choices, movement, and relationships impact your mental health. Your therapist helps you identify the right tools for you and practice new skills to help you develop a more connected, resilient, and confident life.

  • Online holistic psychotherapy sessions are meant to be accessible for those who are unable to go into a traditional office setting or prefer therapy from the comfort of their home. Through sessions, you can expect to help identify significant and daily life stressors to create personalized goals, similar to traditional in person therapy sessions.

You need access to a phone, iPad/Tablet, or computer with a camera. Online counseling allows you to make a genuine connection with your therapist and it is common for video calls to feel like you are having a regular face-to-face conversation. Our virtual platform is made for modern life, HIPAA secure and private. Instructions on how to log-on will be provided to you upon booking your initial visit. Telephone sessions are also available if your access to technology is limited. Telehealth is not for emergencies and emergency services should be sought when needed.

  • Some popular reasons people go to therapy are to better understand what is causing stress or anxiety in their lives, how to cope and regulate negative emotions, restore a relationship, recover from trauma, adjust to a new life phase, or improve mental health overall. Only you can decide if you are ready to begin therapy, but many people choose to go to therapy when they want to feel better in life and are looking for support in the process.

  • Research has found that the bond between you and your therapist is likely to have a significant impact on your growth. That’s why it’s important to do your research, ask questions, and pay attention to your own responses in your search for the therapist that’s right for you. It is normal to feel apprehensive about meeting your therapist for the first time. Some questions to ask yourself when deciding who the right therapist for you are:

    • Do I feel comfortable opening up to this person and is there a strong connection?

    • Is the therapist empathic, did I feel heard, seen and valued?

    • What are their credentials, level of expertise and have they treated others with your particular issues or focus?

    • How do they manage the fee/billing and do they offer a sliding scale?

    • Do they offer evening and weekends hours and/or have hours that match my availability?

  • The therapist expects your cooperation, genuine participation, and openness. We are here to help you and your feedback is important if something is not working for you. Your willingness to express your needs and wants will help you get the most out of your sessions. The amount of effort and work you pour into yourself outside of sessions is also a strong catalyst for seeing results. Keeping consistency in your appointments and communicating any changes in availability or payments (in a timely manner) will help you get the most out of your sessions. If you are having any issues or concerns with the therapy process, billing or administration, please share this immediately with your therapist.

  • Treatment goals are meant to provide a guide toward the direction of therapy and is a great tool to measure progress but we get that life happens and sometimes other things come up that deviate from those goals. Here are some ways to self monitor your progress:

    • Do you notice changes in your behavior? Are you more assertive, communicate more effectively, have healthier habits, are more reliable and show up for yourself more often?

    • What do your thoughts sound like? Are they more realistic thinking, more optimistic, less irrational, or less critical?

    • How is your mood and emotional state on most days? Are you happier, less anxious, less angry, less depressed?

    • What is the quality of your relationships? Are you having less conflicts with others, are you feeling more connected with others, are you able to set healthy boundaries?

    • How is your quality of life/life satisfaction? Do you feel more satisfied with where you are in life, are you more accepting of what is happening right now, do you feel less frustrated, do you experience more gratitude and appreciation for the small things?

    • Do you have the skills to cope with daily stressors and emotionally regulate? Do you feel empowered and able to handle challenging situations or conflicts, set goals, and feel competent?

    • How self-aware and mindful are you compared to when you started? Are you able to tune into your body and meet your own needs?
